Well hello there. As you've probably guessed, my name is Del Murray and the mug shots are of me..... I live just outside of Forfar, Scotland, at a place called called Kirkbuddo, but was born in the central Highland town of Kingussie. I've lived in or around the Dundee area most of my life, but have spent some time living on the Morayshire coast around the city of Elgin, and just outside of London, near Aylesbury. I've also travelled quite extensively around the world, from as far East as Japan, Singapore, Australia and the Philippines to as far North and West as Alaska, and quite a few places in between, but I still feel that this is the best place to live. For the moment!! The roads round by me and to the North of Scotland were just made for the riding bikes like the R7-1 and WR400.
I recently finished serving in the Royal Air Force as an Aircraft Electrical & Electronic Engineer, at RAF Leuchars (near St. Andrews), and have to date worked on a huge variety of different aircraft types and roles. Most of my last 9 years in the RAF had been spent working on the Tornado F3 aircraft, but during my time I had also been on an intensive training course, and have qualified with a B-Tech Higher National Certificate in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. This meant that I was now in the market for a change of employment, and I have done just that.
I went to work for a company called Sonsub, employed as an ROV Pilot/Technician. Sonsub are parented by the Italian oil giant Agip/Saipem, who are in turn part of the Eni group, and as a result Sonsub have systems working all over the world. I have worked mainly on their two trenching systems, "Flexjet 2" and the Innovator Trenching System "Centaur", in the North Sea and off the eastern coast of United States, but I have also worked on some intricate construction and commissioning jobs, flying some of the smaller ROV's such as MRV's and Venturers.
Sonsub were a really good company to work for, but I was then offered a more stable position, and better pay, with a rival ROV company called Canyon Offshore. I am now specializing in the "Cable Trenching" market, covering the whole globe, operating the new ST200 ROV built by Perry Slingsby. Canyon Offshore is also in the process of a "New Build" Super Trencher, featuring 750HP of trenching power, and being built in the UK by Perry Slingsby.
Due to the very volatile nature of the cable market though, I have had to keep my hand in doing the more frantic "Oil & Gas" construction work, with free flying ROV's such as the Triton XL and ST100's and also some inspection/observation work with Sub Atlantic Super Mohawks.
If you think that I might be interested in working for your company, feel free to contact me or peruse my Curriculum Vitae.
As you've probably also guessed, my main interests are in motorcycles, and during my time with them, I have raced at National level, unfortunately not doing too brilliantly, having only ever managed a best finish of third place. I still take an active interest in the racing scene, but until someone out there gives me a bike to ride, I'm afraid I'll have to stick to watching it for now. Racing bikes has got to be the second quickest money reducing agent know to man, next to a woman. Now I have to settle for the odd track day here and there and riding on probably the best roads in the world for a bike.
Another hobby of mine is this thing... The internet... When I'm not working on the bikes, the rest of my free time is taken up by trying to provide you with a fairly presentable web site. I have made a couple of updates to the pages over the last few years or so that I have been online, and most of these have come about from visitors comments. You see, feedback does work. Hopefully the site meets with your approval and if it doesn't, then tell me what you would like to see changed or added or whatever. I have also started to offer my services as a Web Site designer, so there goes any more free time I thought I might have. At the moment I am only taking on personal or small business site design, as I don't have the time to be continually updating larger businesses sites. Again, if anyone out there needs help getting a site off the ground and you like what I have put together here, drop me a line and I will see what I can do.
